How do we monitor quality?

The EuroFlam Consortium Partners set themselves ever improving quality goals in the execution of the various services they provide. This is primarily motivated by a mutually held objective to provide the highest quality service possible to both to the Sponsor, the European Commission and to the Users and their User Groups.

Quality control exists at a range of levels:

  • Quality monitoring begins at the selection period, in terms of the user and their proposals. This is assessed by the staff of the Infrastructure of choice, and if so far successful by the EuroFlam Industrial and Academic Assessors, before a final endorsement by the European Commission.

  • During the User’s period of research/training, he or she will expect to make at least one presentation of work done – typically a mid-term and an end report - for peer review by the technical and scientific staff of the facility as well as the other Users in residence.

  • On completion of the User’s period of research training, the User must give his or her assessment of the experience in written format and present it independently to the European Commission – the template for this assessment can be downloaded from this site.

  • Every year, either the EuroFlam Industrial or the EuroFlam Academic Assessor, assesses each of the three EuroFlam Consortium Partner infrastructures and the Users in residence at that time.

  • In June each year all three EuroFlam Consortium Partner infrastructures come together at one of the sites for the Annual Seminar.

This seminar last typically 2 or 3 days depending upon the number of Users at that time. All users who have already completed their induction period at one of the facilities, plus all Users who have completed their research/training periods, gather for the Seminar. Each must make a formal presentation of the work done during their research/training period for peer review and for review by the EuroFlam Industrial and Academic Assessors. Representative of local industry and academia also attend, and the main industrial sponsor offers a prize for the best presentation.

During the Seminar all Users present participate in a Round Table and jointly assess and report upon their EuroFlam experience.

  • The EC itself requires a performance assessment halfway through the Contact Period – The Mid-Term Assessment. For the second project phase, the EuroFlam Consortium Partners, scored well in this assessment. Preparations for the next Mid-Term Assessment are well in hand.
