A Consortium of Large Scale Facilities in the Field of
Energy, Combustion and the Environment

Combustion Technology:
Research, Development & Training Transnational Access to Major Research Infrastructures
Who benefits? There are many beneficiaries from the EuroFlam programmes
"Access to Research Infrastructures" and "Marie
Curie Training" ranging from the programme users and their user groups, through to the European Union and its industry and its citizens, in terms of the education, improved human capital and mobility, the environment, employment and exporting possibilities.
In summary, the programme is designed to create an important pool of well educated and trained, and above all mobile people, who may work in industry or in academia in the fields of combustion and the environment, to improve the efficient use of fossil fuels, develop techniques for the application of renewable fuels, reduce associated airborne pollutants, and in the long term combat the climate change/global warming problems through the reduction of specific CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases.
The immediate beneficiaries from the EuroFlam programmes are the Users. The following groups of individuals may participate in the EuroFlam
Programmes.
Undergraduates:
Participation in the EuroFlam Access programme is suitable for those undergraduates from universities and technical colleges who are required to complete a training/work experience period as part of their course. Successful applicants are funded by the European Commission during their stay at the EuroFlam research facility and the cost of travelling to and from the facility is also covered.
New graduates:
For those students who have or are about to finish their studies and are seeking practical, hands on research experience which they can use as a foundation for a career in the field on combustion, energy and the environment, EuroFlam
Access provides the ideal opportunity for them to achieve this. In addition EuroFlam also provides the added advantage of the prospect to travel and all the cultural and personal benefits that may be derived from this experience.
PhD students:
Regular Access Programme
In many cases it is beneficial for students studying for a PhD degree to broaden their research experience by working at a different research facility. In the past, many such individuals have used the EuroFlam
Access Programme to enhance their experience and training and to learn new techniques and procedures which they could use and apply to their own research.
This programme continues.
Marie Curie Training Fellowship
A new addition to the EuroFlam programme
is the Marie Curie Training Fellowship programme where sucessful candidates can
work at anyone of the three EuroFlam Consortium Member Laboratories for a
period of up to 12 months on a programme of work to be agreed between the
EuroFlam partner, the PhD candidate (the Fellow) and the Fellow's
University/Promoter.
Continued Professional Development:
Participation in EuroFlam is not exclusive to young individuals from universities. The programme is also open to professional individuals who can be in full-time employment and who wish to develop and improve their skills and knowledge regarding the operation, use and application of combustion equipment and techniques. Therefore, participation of individuals who wish to undergo Continued Professional Development in this manner is encouraged.
